🎶 Celebrate Methuen's Tricentennial with Us! 🎶
Methuen, Massachusetts is currently celebrating its 300th anniversary (tricentennial) of its first Town Meeting, which occurred on March 9, 1726. The year-long series of events, organized by the Methuen300 committee, highlights the city’s history and community growth through various educational and entertainment activities.
Key upcoming and recent events in the 2026 celebration include:
A Day of History Celebrating 300!: Originally scheduled for May 30, this major event has been moved to Sunday, May 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Methuen Museum of History at the Tenney Gatehouse in Greycourt State Park. The rain-or-shine event features Civil War and WWII reenactments, historic bus tours, hands-on colonial activities, and local history exhibits.
Tricentennial Gala: Held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall. This sold-out dinner event featured music from the Great Organ and a message from James Paul Archibald Methuen-Campbell, the 8th Baron Methuen, the city’s namesake.
Celebrating Methuen 300 Festival: The celebration concludes with a two-day family-friendly festival on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, 2026, along Pleasant View Street. Activities include live music in Nicholson Stadium, food trucks, bouncy houses, and community group booths.
The celebration also included a kickoff luncheon on March 6 at Nevins Library, a concert by the Firebird Pops Orchestra on March 7, and a storytelling series covering topics such as the American Revolution, the Civil War, and women’s suffrage.
